This is an apartment building and barbershop in Ikenoue, a neighborhood in Shimokitazawa, Tokyo.

Barbershops have long been a "social space in town".

In order to express this spatiality, I created a sheltered space where people can stand against the narrow street in front of the barbershop.

It became a space that says "welcome" to the customers of the barbershop and "welcome back" to the people in the apartment building.

A row house in Asagaya, Tokyo.

The premise of the project was to divide a flagpole site into two.

In order to avoid building something completely different on two opposite sites, and to avoid a cramped construction style like the surrounding environment, we explored the possibility of a more open construction style.

Since the site is surrounded by houses on four sides, the first floor becomes dark. Therefore, the living space is located on the second floor where the sunshine is good, and the first floor is used for bedrooms, water, and backyard. Tall trees are planted between the units facing each other to maintain a good degree of privacy.
